Dr. Staner is one of the few Neurological specialists in America Board Certified in both Neurosurgery and Neurology. He has more than twenty-five years experience in Microneurosurgery of the brain and spine.
He has extensive experience in Minimally Invasive Surgery including, when necessary, for spinal "Fusions". These previously extensive operations can usually be performed as Out Patient or 23 hour stay. Less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery are the chief advantages of this technique.
The most common surgeries performed, include treatment for Stenosis, or disk and spur compressions in the neck and low back. But he also has more than 25 years experience in complex tumor surgery, to percutaneous reconstruction of compression fractures, and other conditions of the brain and spine.
Dr. Thomas A. Staner is Director and Founder of the Greystone Neuroscience Center located at the Medstone Building on Highway 280 in Birmingham, Alabama. This is the first medical center in this region that has offered excellence in diagnostic imaging (with MRI scans, myelograms, CAT scans, etc) with immediate clinical follow-up, saving patients multiple trips to the doctor's office, especially appreciated by our patients who travel hundreds of miles and sometimes much more for neurosurgical evaluation.
